Breast Lift Scars in NYC
Every breast lift leaves a scar. The goal is not to avoid scars, but to create the best possible breast shape while helping your scars heal as inconspicuously as possible.
The amount of lifting you need determines the incision pattern, not the other way around. A shorter scar is not always a better scar. Choosing an incision that is too limited can compromise the breast shape, reduce the longevity of your result, and increase the risk of recurrent sagging.
- Is There a Scarless Breast Lift?
- No. Every breast lift surgery, also called a mastopexy, requires an incision to remove excess skin, reshape the breast, and reposition the nipple and areola. The right incision is the one that provides the safest operation, the best breast shape, and the most durable result.
- What Do Breast Lift Scars Look Like?
- Most breast lifts use one of two patterns. A lollipop scar, also called a vertical mastopexy, circles the areola and runs in a single line down to the breast crease. An anchor scar adds a third line along the crease itself, where it sits beneath the fold of the breast. Both are designed to fall within the areolar border and under a bra or swimsuit, and both are chosen based on how much lifting your anatomy requires.
- How Long Do Breast Lift Scars Take to Fade?
- Scars mature slowly. For the first several weeks they are flat and closed but pink. Between roughly one and four months they often become firmer, raised, and more colored. This is normal, and it is the stage that worries patients most. Over the following months the scar softens, flattens, and fades, and most of the change happens across the first year. Some patients scar more readily than others, including those prone to hypertrophic or keloid scarring, and skin tone influences how a scar pigments as it heals. Your history is reviewed before surgery, and your plan is adjusted accordingly.
